Recorded and edited by Scarlet himself using Alberto Ricci’s fantastically great Sound Effects 0.9.1.
Original startup burst from Marathon. What a tremendous in-joke, eh, readers?
Hey Scarlet! Why should I use Hardestcore Music 4?
No particular reason. It’s just an alternative introductory music track for M2, carefully chosen for its spookiness or curious aptness. There are at least six in the series.
Hey Scarlet! How do I use Hardestcore Music 4?
Put the original Music file somewhere safe and rename Hardestcore Music 4 to plain Music. Now drop it in the M2 folder and start the game as usual. Regrettably, like all Scarlet’s alternative tracks, it is presented in mono.
Hey Scarlet! The M2 demos interrupt the music!
Yes. Click on the M2 logo or the Preferences menu to prevent this.
Hey Scarlet! What’s the music from?
Oh, you know. That film with that chap. Or the one with those people and that thing. If you’re desperately interested, write to Scarlet.
Hey Scarlet! How do I make my own music?
Your sound file must be named “Music” and saved in AIFF format. (Again, Scarlet recommends the fantastically great Sound Effects 0.9.1, despite its not having, for example, an Undo command.) Then use File Buddy or a similar utility to change the creator to “52.4” and the file type to “mus2” and pop it in the M2 folder. Perhaps you might want to continue Scarlet’s tradition of opening the piece with the original startup burst from M1. Or possibly not. Of course, Scarlet’s own Hardestcore Music tracks can only be distributed in full, for no material profit and with their Read Me files attached.
Hey Scarlet! What is Hardestcore Sounds?
Hardestcore Sounds is an apocalyptically harsh replacement sound file for M2 of which Scarlet is immoderately proud. It should be available where you found Hardestcore Music 4; contact Scarlet direct if not for a suitable address.
Hey Scarlet! And Hardercore Sounds?
Hardercore Sounds is an apocalyptically harsh replacement sound file for the original Marathon with which Scarlet is similarly beamingly pleased. Again, it should be available alongside Hardestcore Music 4.
Hey Scarlet! And will there be an equivalent file for M3 when, for example, it’s released?
Indubitably.
Hey Scarlet! Is that all I need to know?
It is. Be off with you, you young shaver.
Hardestcore Music 4 is a whimsicality. If you use Hardestcore Music 4 for more than thirty days, you probably have the others in the set and are swapping between them as the mood takes you. Scarlet accepts no responsibility, explaining how he has the time to do this sort of thing.
